2003 raptor 660 suspension work
« on: May 10, 2012, 07:09:46 PM »
Well I've been rideing my new raptor an I'm finding its bugs I have t work out.

I know it needs left upper ball joint, chain, lights rewired ,tail light lense, all 4 tires and shocks adjusted.

For the ball joint how hard are they to replace on these bikes?

And what size tire is ideal for it as well. I see the hole shots and don't care for their price but found some knock offs. What tire works good in the trail and helps a little in the mud.

Engine wise its great full of power and no taps ticks or lagg.

My raptor had 24 inch mudlights... I would prolly go with 22x11-9... Go to motosport.com, there is a tire made by "ARTRAX" thats looks like a holeshot for 45 bucks a piece...

im running a warrior 350 and have great luck all over north florida with a set of pro wedges, their kinda expensive but you can go for some duro's or 4snow's basically the same tread and they hook up killer in everything around here. P.S. im running 22x11's and have no clutch problems because the tires are extremely light

Well I found out why my tires are going flat other than being old and wore...
Te damn punks 2w houses down put 3 inch nails into a 2x4 thur a 3/4 pice of plywood and coverd it with leaves in the path of my tail and I ran it over many times not knowing.
Boy am I pissed they would do such a thing... told their dad he's going to buy me a new set of $200 tires (and ill add 150) and get killer tires lol...

But atop the nails in a board we found that the axle bearing are bad so I'm in the process to tearing the rear apart and need to find a big pip wrench or 50mm to remove the lock nut to pull the shaft and inspect and remove the bearings for replacement...
I was thinking a extended axle but wow with the cost think ill pass for now....
But while I'm at it doing bearings I'm eyeballing the sprocket its got a 40t should I change the teeth to improve trail useage or just leave the gearing alone... keep in mind the tires I'm going back with are going to be stock size not larger or smaller.

That sucks about the Brat kids.  Stock size tires, Use the stock number of teeth on the sprocket.

Lol no belt for this boy. I tld his dad your boys ole nuff to be called a young man and if he for some reason doesn't like me or my wheelers to knock on my door and deal with me face to face  :P
Boy wouldn't get out of his room when his dad called for him

Stock set is cool .for me figured I would ask before I order the wrong thing and it doesn't perform corectly.

Looks like the raptor is going to be a money pit like the foreman  :-[  :)

Well bearings are shot in rear and I've been looking online for info. The bearings look cheap maybe 20 for replacments, my questions are, do I need to replace the carrier or can I just do the bearings? I did not see any damage to it other than rust and bearings in which I'm going to remove and fill the case with grease like I did my foreman.

Just orderd a new carrier with bearings and seals. And new o ring chain....
I'm still looking into my left upper ball joint... rather I need whole arm or if they are easy enough to replace....

Then all I will need is a new tail light cover
